In this estimation question we have analysed the market size of the number of dogs in Delhi. Check out the step-by-step answer created by Mobiprep experts.
Estimation Question Step-1: Segmentation
Population of Delhi = 1.5 Crores or 150 Lac
Avg. family size = 4-5
Total Families = 30 to 37.5 lacs
Assuming 35 Lacs Families
Therefore, No. of families that can have dogs:
= 0.7 lac + 1.225 lac + 0.7 lac
= 2.625 lacs
Now some people have more than one dog, let avg. number of dogs per family be 1:1 , dogs/family.
No. of Pet dogs = 2.625 * 1.1 lacs
= 2.625 + 0.2625
= 2.8875 Lacs
~ 2.9 Lacs Pet dogs ------(1)
Stray Dogs = Average population density * area of Delhi
Area of Delhi estimated = 1800 sq.km
Avg. Population per sq.km = 20 (by analyzing the area around you)
Therefore the number of stray dogs = 36,000 dogs -----(2)
Police Dogs:
70 Constituencies in Delhi
Let there be 2 police station per constituency and 10 police booth per constituency. At an Avg. let there be 5 dogs and 2 dogs respectively at a police station and a police booth.
Also, since not every booth has a dog , let 40% of police booth have dogs.
= 70 * 2 * 5 + 70 * 10 * 0.4 *2
= 700 + 560
= 1260 dogs -----(3)
Estimation Question Step-2: Solution
Total Number of Dogs:
= (1) + (2) + (3)
= 2.90 lacs + 36k + 1.26k
= 327.26 dogs
